The model

An initial push sends water through a hose and back into the vessel. With the outlet above the water surface, gravity and viscous resistance gradually reduce the flow until it stops. The model follows this loss of momentum over time.

The vessel has a constant cross section, and returning water is assumed to keep its level constant. Pipe flow is treated as laminar, with a rounded inlet. The hose drawing is schematic, and the jet’s return delay is neglected.
